All A/F units are supplied with a 1" drain hose which should be connected to the 1" drain at the bottom left of the unit. Liquid output, if any, should be collected or drained into an approved facility. Under seasonal or light residential use, the Centrex 2000 AF and Centrex 3000 AF should be able to evaporate all liquids; hookup of the drain is still recommended as a safety measure.
Sun-Mar waterfree systems use the handsome Sun-Mar Dry Toilet (in either white or bone), fitted with a removable bowl liner, and connected to the contral composting unit by means of a 10" diameter pipe section. Odor free operation is maintained by a fan which pulls air down through the toilet seat and up the vent stack. Sun-Mar waterfree toilet systems can only be used where the toilet can be placed directly over the composting unit.
Selecting The Right Unit:
When it comes to picking the right unit for your needs, first decide whether you need an electric or non-electric unit. If you have continuous 110 Volt power, an electric unit is suggested. These feature a 370 watt 120v thermostatically controlled heater in a sealed compartment beneath the unit, and a standard 30 watt turbo fan directing air up a 2" vent stack. The combination of fan and heater are able to evaporate up to 9 litres of liquid per day; depending on usage there may be little or no liquid output.
We have two methods for you to select a SUN-MAR system. If you know what you want already, please click on the model name. Otherwise, please use our automatic model selector, an intuitive tool that will tell you exactly which model is right for you.
Electric or Non-Electric
If you have no electricity, then a non-electric (NE) unit is the right selection. Non-electric units are supplied with a 2.4 watt 12 Volt fan to assist updraft on the 4" stack. The absence of heat and reduced air flow limits evaporation on NE units.
AC/DC units are dual vented units with aboht a 2" and 4" vent for those who expect to have 110v power in the future, or are running a generator for 12 or more hours per day.
2000 AC
The larger composting drum in the Centrex 2000 AF (Air Flow) allows a longer composting cycle, and larger waste volumes. The increased surface area in the evaporating chamber also provides better evaporation. When used seasonally by up to 9 adults, compost will normally only need to be removed annually at the beginning of the cottage season.
If used in a residence, the drum would have to be rotated backwards to empty some compost into the finishing drawer once every few months, where it remains to finish composting before removal.
The Centrex 2000 AF (Air Flow) is designed for use with a Sun-Mar Dry Toilet (purchased separately). This unit is ideal for those who do not have water, but still want the composting action to take place outside of the bathroom area. The Centrex 2000 AF is normally able to evaporate all liquids, so the drains must be connected only if heavy use (i.e. use at or over maximum capacity, or residential use) or prolonged power outages are expected.
The Centrex 2000 AF features a 370 watt thermostatically controlled heater in a sealed compartment under the unit and the standard Sun-Mar 30 watt turbo fan, with a 2" vent stack to remove the evaporate and fresh odors.
The Centrex 2000 AF is supplied with a 29½" pipe piece (10" diameter). This is long enough if the floor of the bathroom is up to 34" above the surface that the composter is placed on. The pipe piece can be cut to size and additional pieces ordered if necessary.
This unit should evaporate all liquid unless it is being used heavily. A 1" drain hose is supplied for hooking up the drain in any case, since we recommend it for most residential use or heavier cottage use.
2000 AC/DC
Perfect for medium to heavy seasonal or light residential use, the Centrex 2000 A/F AC/DC allows for both a longer composting cycle, and larger waste volumes. The increased surface area in the evaporating chamber coupled with the larger heating element also provides better evaporation when the unit is on AC power.
When used seasonally by up to 7-9 adults, compost will normally only need removing annually each spring. In residential use compost will have to be extracted more frequently.
The Centrex 2000 A/F AC/DC combines the features of the non-electric and electric units to produce a hybrid unit that will be ideal for those anticipating 110 volt power in the future, those who are in an area that sees frequent power outages, or those who would like to take advantage of the evaporative capacity of the heater when 110V electricity is available to them. Even with the evaporation capacity, the overflow drain should be installed with this unit as there will be overflow when the unit is being used in DC mode, and when it is used to maximum capacity in AC mode.
The Centrex 2000 A/F AC/DC is designed for use with a Sun-Mar Dry Toilet (purchased separately). This unit is ideal for those who do not have water, but still want the composting action to take place outside of the bathroom area.
The Centrex 2000 A/F AC/DC is supplied with a 29½" pipe piece (10" diameter). This is long enough if the floor of the bathroom is up to 38" above the surface that the composter is placed on. The pipe piece can be cut to size and additional pieces ordered if necessary.
The Centrex 2000 A/F AC/DC requires that 2 vent stacks be installed to handle the separate venting functions. The 2" vent is in use when the AC fan is in operation, and the 4" vent is venting the unit passively when there is no power available. As an extra option, we include a 12 Volt 1.4 Watt fan with the Centrex 2000 A/F AC/DC. You may want to install this fan if the unit is to see maximum capacity use, and you should install the 12 Volt fan if you have to put any bends in the 4" vent stack, as you will then lose the "chimney effect" advantage of a vertical stack, and will need to provide air movement with the fan.
While in AC operation, the unit should not require that an overflow drain be connected, unless it is being used heavily. While in DC operation, the overflow drain should be connected. Click here for more information on handling excess liquid.
2000 NE (Non-Electric)
The Centrex 2000 A/F NE (Air Flow Non-Electric) is designed for use with a Sun-Mar Dry Toilet (purchased separately). This unit is ideal for those who do not have water, but still want the composting action to take place outside of the bathroom area.
The Centrex 2000 A/F NE is the non-electric version of the Centrex 2000 AF, and is fitted with a 4" vent stack. Installation of a 12 Volt fan is required on this model, and one is included in the box.
The Centrex 2000 A/F NE is supplied with a 29½" pipe piece (10" diameter). This is long enough if the floor of the bathroom is up to 38" above the surface that the composter is placed on. The pipe piece can be cut to size and additional pieces ordered if necessary.
With the lower evaporating capacity that comes with the lack of an electric heater, the overflow drain should be installed with this unit as there will be overflow liquid. Please click here for more information on handling excess liquid.
3000 AC
The Centrex 3000 AF (Air Flow) is a continuous compost flow design for very heavy cottage or medium residential use. With a continuous flow system, rotation of the drum moves compost along the larger and longer 3000 series drum, before it drops automatically into the collection housing at the end of the unit. Under normal operating conditions the drum will not have to be turned backwards for emptying.
When used seasonally by up to 10 adults, compost will normally only need to be removed annually at the beginning of the following season.
The Centrex 3000 AF features a 370 watt 120 volt thermostatically controlled heater in a sealed compartment beneath the unit coupled with the standard Sun-Mar 30 watt turbo fan and 2" vent stack.
The Centrex 3000 AF is designed for use with a Sun-Mar Dry Toilet. A pipe piece, 45" in length and 10" in diameter, is supplied with the unit. The only restriction on installation is that the Dry Toilet needs to be directly above the unit so that there is a straight drop. This is long enough if the floor of the bathroom is up to 37.5" above the surface that the composter is placed on. The pipe piece can be cut to size and additional pieces ordered if necessary.
All 3000 series units are supplied with a 1" drain hose which should be connected to the 1" drain at the bottom left of the unit. This particular model should be able to evaporate all liquids as long as the heater is on, and it is not being used heavily, so an overflow drain may not be necessary. This unit is for use with a Dry Toilet, purchased separately.
3000 AC/DC
The Centrex 3000 AF (Air Flow) AC/DC composting toilet system has a continuous flow design for very heavy cottage or medium residential use.
If needed, additional collection chambers are available for long term compost storage.
The Centrex 3000 AF (Air Flow) AC/DC features a 370 watt 120 volt thermostatically controlled heater in a sealed compartment beneath the unit coupled with the standard Sun-Mar 30 watt turbo fan and 2" vent stack. These items help to evaporate urine when the unit is being used in AC mode.
The Centrex 3000 AF AC/DC also features a 4" vent stack which may be used to vent the unit when no electricity is present. We also include a 12 volt 2.4 watt fan that we strongly suggest installing in the vent stack, especially if you need to put a bend in the vent as shown in the diagram.
The Centrex 3000 AF AC/DC is designed for use with a Sun-Mar Dry Toilet.
This unit should be able to evaporate all liquids while operating in AC mode, with the heater on. Drains should still be connected for heavy use or use in DC mode. Click here for more information on handling excess liquid. This unit is for use with a Dry Toilet, purchased separately.
3000 NE (Non-Electric)
The Centrex 3000 AF (Air Flow) NE (Non-Electric) employs continuous flow design for very heavy cottage or medium residential use.
The Centrex 3000 AF NE features a 4" vent stack which is used to vent the unit passively. We also include a 12 volt 2.4 watt fan that is required in the vent stack to assist airflow.
The Centrex 3000 AF NE is designed for use with a Sun-Mar Dry Toilet.
Click here for more information on handling excess liquid. This unit is for use with a Dry Toilet, purchased separately.
